Some Pilot News

Boardwalk Empire- The highly anticipated, Martin Scorsese-directed (only the pilot), Steve Buscemi-starring (with an EXCELLENT supporting cast), has just added another gem to its supporting cast. Gretchen Mol will play a showgirl named Nicky.

The Quickening- This A&E pilot, starring Radha Mitchell, has picked up Amaury Nolasco ("Prison Break") to play a homicide detective who was briefly married to Mitchell's Maggie Bird, also a homicide detective.

Facing Kate- Ethan Embry ("Prison Break") is joining USA Network's pilot, starring Sarah Shahi as the title character. He will play Kate's brother, a stay-at-home father.

Delta Blues- Delta Blues, a TNT pilot, has just cast Jason Lee ("My Name Is Earl") as its main character, a cop who moonlights as an Elvis impersonator.

The Cast of 'Modern Family' Just Gets Better and Better!

The TV gods have shined yet another bright light on the hit ABC comedy "Modern Family", this one in the form of glorious character actor Fred Willard. He will only appear in the December 9th episode for a short bit, on a computer screen. He will play Phil's (Ty Burrell) father, and the episode he is in is the Christmas episode. As the title of this post says, this cast seriously cannot get any bigger and better!

Anyone else freakin' psyched for this Wednesday's episode with Edward Norton and Elizabeth Banks?

Some good options tonight, especially for NCIS fans, with the usual two hours of the CBS procedural, including NCIS: Vanilla and NCIS: Los Angeles. Two hours of So You Think You Can Dance, an hour and a half of The Biggest Loser, and NBC's family-friendly holiday special, Merry Madagascar. If you've been into either of two currently running mini-series, The Prisoner on AMC, or WWII in HD on the History Channel, there are two more hours of each tonight. More Thanksgiving-themed shows on the Food Network, and a new Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel. Lots of great college sports, and another mermaid girl documentary on Discovery Health. A new The Good Wife on CBS, a favorite of mine, and the only thing I watch on Tuesday nights. V begins to wrap things up for November tonight at 8:00 on ABC, and the powerful Sons of Anarchy is on FX, along with reality TV junk food on MTV, and the always tepid Dancing with the Stars results show. Whatever your fancy, have a great night!

Hot Off the Presses! 'Parks and Rec' gets beefed up, plus more TV News!

Just read that Will Arnett ("Arrested Development", "30 Rock") has conifrmed his coming to his wife's show, Parks and Recreation. He will be playing a potential love interest of Leslie, played by his wife Amy Poehler. Also, this episode marks the arrival of Justin Theroux, for a multi-episode arc as a friend of Rashida Jones's Amy, and will be a potential love interest for Leslie as well.

Pilot News:

TNT's pilot Rizzoli is getting a familiar face: Lorraine Bracco of "The Sopranos" will play the mother to Angie Harmon's title character. Bracco gained four Emmy nominations for playing therapist Jennifer Melfi on "The Sopranos".

NBC's pilot Rex Is Not Your Lawyer just casted Jeffrey Tambor ("Arrested Development") and Abigail Spencer ("Mad Men"). They join David Tennant ("Doctor Who"), who was recently casted as the title character. Tambor is set to play Tennant's lawyer, while Spencer will play his co-worker and fiancee.

Somewhat unrelated, but totally awesome news! According to TV Guide Magazine, Aaron Sorkin is looking to get back in the television game for another series set behind the scenes of a TV show. All he can say is that it's not going to be like "Sports Night" or "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip", it's going to be a different kind of TV show. He hopes to reunite with actors he's previously worked with, and will definitely work with frequent collaborator director Tommy Schlamme.

And... is anyone else tired of all this Levi Johnson news?

I'll be watching Desperate Housewives at nine, and now that Mad Men has ended, the 10 spot might open for some. The Discovery Health special, Child Frozen in Time, sounded interesting, if you dare. Or you can turn in early, and get some much needed sleep, which is what I'll be doing. Or go for the cool WWII special, The Prisoner on AMC, or some other interesting choices. Whatever your choice, have a great Sunday night! (If that's possible.)

There's a new Lifetime movie, a new Hallmark movie, and a new SyFy movie. Guys, this is Saturday night TV doldroms at its best. Don't forget Wanda Sykes is a good option, and of course, SNL. College football is also a good option, and surfing your favorite channels for repeats is an excellent choice. I will be DVRing an episode of SVU which I missed, so that's an option for y'all too. Or turn off the tube tonight and figure out something else! Whatever you decide, have a great night!

Some Casting Notes

Sorry guys, gone Friday night, so from now on, instead of posting a regular "What's New Tonight" post Friday night, on Thursday (or Friday during the day) I will post a heads-up for what's new Friday & Saturday evenings, both relatively light TV nights. Sorry, dropped the ball on this one. Also, since I didn't get a full week of "What's New Tonight"s, I won't be able to do a week-ending guest star lineup, which is a highlight for me. Next week, though, that will start. It'll be posted Saturday afternoon, usually, sometimes Sunday morning.

Anyway, some casting notes that have been reported-

Castle- Alyssa Milano has signed on for an episode to shoot this week which will air in early 2010, reports Ausiello Files. Apparently, she will play a former love interest of Nathan Fillion, who cross paths again on her wedding day.

Vampire Diaries- Sean Faris is joining the already hot cast of Vampire Diaries, for an apparently scandalous multi-episode arc as a bartender at the Mystic Grill. Don't watch the show; but I'm sure all of you who do would be very excited about this, especially the ladies.

Hot Off the Presses! Minnie Driver Joins 'Modern Family'!

I know you all love 'Modern Family' as much as I do, or at least I hope you do.

Earlier this afternoon, Ausiello Files reported that Minnie Driver would be taking a comic turn in a winter episode of 'Modern Family'! 'Family' now has a pedigree that includes Shelley Long, Edward Norton, Chazz Palmintieri, Elizabeth Banks, Benjamin Bratt, and now, Minnie Driver, that would impress even the staunchest 'Modern Family' hater.
